Currency Exchange

The Danish currency is the krone (Danish Krone = DKK).
1 krone constitutes 100 øre.
Coins are circulated in the following denominations: · 25 øre, 50 øre, 1 krone, 2 kroner, 5 kroner, 10 kroner and 20 kroner. · The 25 and 50 øre coins are copper-coloured. · The 1, 2 and 5 kroner coins are silver-coloured (with a hole in the middle). · The 10 and 20 kroner coins are gold-coloured.

Bank notes are issued in the following denominations:
50 kroner, 100 kroner, 200 kroner, 500 kroner and 1,000 kroner.

Banks
Banks are usually open from 9:30 AM to 4.00 PM. Thursday to 6.00 PM. The banks are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The banks at Copenhagen international airport (Kastrup) are open every day from 6:30 AM, closing at 6:30 PM (departure hall) or 10 PM (arrival and transit areas). The bank at the central railway station (Hovedbanegården) is open every day from 7 AM until 9 PM.

Currency exchange
You can exchange money at the exchange bureaus located around town or in the banks. Most of the exchange bureaus are open every day: usually from 9 AM until 10 PM.
Outside these hours, try one of the automatic exchange machines at the Town Hall square (RaÂdhuspladsen), Axelborg square, 35, Vimmelskaftet (Strøget) or 9, Vesterbrogade.
They are open 24 hours a day and accept US dollars, Pound sterling, French and Swiss francs, German marks, Dutch guilders, Italian lira, Swedish and Norwegian kroner.

"Money from the wall" - ATMs
Automatic Teller Machines/ATM's are located around town. Look for the red logos "Kontanten/Dankort Automat". Here you can use Visa, Plus, Mastercard/Eurocard, Eurochequecard and sometimes JCB. Machines are usually open 24 hrs but some are closed at night. You can draw up to 2000 DKK pr. day.
Banks will in general give cash advance.

Cheques
Foreign personal cheques are usually not accepted in stores. Eurocheques are in general accepted by most hotels, restaurants and shops if drawn in DKK.
Traveller's cheques can be cashed in banks and major hotels.
"PostCheques", which can be obtained in most European countries, can be cashed at all post offices.

Credit cards
Most hotels, restaurants, gas stations and major shops accept the major credit cards like Visa, Mastercard/Eurocard, Diners, JCB and American Express. However, you shouldn't expect to pay with credit cards in supermarkets.
